Justin & Mikquel Matherson
Shaadiin, Walela, & Zara Mae
Justin Matherson
Senior Associate Leader
Personal background
Justin Matherson was grew up in the 90s in Northeast Denver in the Montbello neighborhood. That was a time when gangs were becoming increasingly more common in Denver. He was introduced to gangs at a young age. In high school his group of friends decided to start up their own gang and pursue a thug lifestyle. It was in the midst of that lifestyle that Jesus pursued him and captivated his heart the summer before his senior year in high school. Football was always a passion of his and he took his senior year seriously and earned a scholarship to play at Fort Lewis College in Durango. In 2006 (his senior year in college) he made first team All-Conference and broke the single game rushing record two times. He also set a record for yards per carry in a season.
Family Life
At Fort Lewis College he met Mikquel and fell in love with her and the two of them got married in 2009. They settled down in Durango and brought three precious girls into the world: Shaandiin (the oldest), Walela, and Zara (the youngest). They love doing devotions with their daughters and supporting them in their school activities and sports.
Passion and Mission
To teach people how to connect with God at the deepest level. Justin received the baptism of the Holy Spirit in 2010 and with that came, from the Holy Spirit, a revelation of wisdom and the understanding of how heavenly wisdom transforms us and enables us to live a life full of God’s glory, free from habitual sin and shame. One of his favorite Bible verses is 1 Corinthians 2:7 (NKJV), “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory.” Wisdom is a gift from the Holy Spirit to help us live the most glorious and fruitful life possible.
Ministry and Education
Justin was deeply involved in campus ministry at Fort Lewis College. Master Plan Ministries gave him a strong foundation in the word of God, taught him the importance of discipleship and how to share Christ with strangers. Those things have stuck with him throughout the years. He graduated from college in 2006, and in 2007 started volunteering with Young Life (youth ministry). In 2011 he became a full-time youth pastor and has been in full-time/part-time ministry ever since. When he and his wife Mikquel stepped down from youth ministry in 2015 to join the Gingerich’s to help plant Recalibrate Church, they also started a business to help make ends meet. They have applied heavenly wisdom and God’s witty inventions to establish their business, and now Rez Meetz Urban Zesty Salsa is in 20 stores across Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico.
Mikquel Matherson
Senior Leadership Team
Personal Background:
Mikquel was born in Gallup, NM and is of Navajo and Hopi decent. Growing up in a broken family, she was used to switching off between both of her parents from Gallup to Window Rock, AZ (on the Navajo reservation). Through a radical encounter she accepted Jesus at age 15 at an all Native American Youth camp, though it was not easily accepted by her family at the time since she was raised in Native tradition. In 2005 she graduated from Rehoboth Christian High School and moved to Durango, CO to attend Fort Lewis College to study Psychology, and later graduated there as a Magna Cum Laude.
Family Life:
Mikquel met Justin Matherson through a student campus ministry as student leaders, and in 2009 they got married. They have 3 beautiful daughters and they are honored to be raising their daughters in a redeemed Christ centered home, knowing their lives have broken the generational cycles and curses in their family line for their daughters and generations to come!
Passion and Ministry:
In her early years as a believer she traveled with a Native American Youth Ministry (On Eagles’ Wings) during the summer, to various Native Tribes to share the gospel of Jesus Christ through outreach. Later in college she became a student leader who led outreach and discipled Native American students on campus. In 2010 she was introduced to the baptism of the Holy Spirit and through a profound encounter she experienced the love and glory of Jesus like never before that would awaken hope, freedom & greater encounter! For the next 5 years she partnered with her husband to do youth ministry in Durango, CO and Bayfield, CO, until they were called to help establish Recalibrate Church in 2016.
Passion & Mission:
Her desire is to see the lost & broken hearted brought into sonship and divine encounter, while being entirely set free from past generational traumas & toxic mindsets. Because the Father’s love has personally transformed her soul, she has a heart to impart that transformation into the lives of others as well. As a worship leader she loves to move God’s heart with her worship, knowing she is a beloved daughter. She loves leading His people into divine encounter with ‘The One’ who is worthy, as they join in with orchestra of Heaven.

Seeds Nursery Director / Media Manager / Church Admin
About Me
I’m blessed beyond words to be married and a mom to three amazing sons. Born in California, I spent my high school years in Colorado before heading back to California—but God’s plan brought me back to Colorado in 2020. From the moment I stepped into Recalibrate Church in 2020, I knew I had found something special. This church community has been a profound gift in my life!
Family and Creativity
As a homeschool mom, I thrive on creativity—whether I’m baking fresh bread, flipping furniture, or diving into any hands-on project that sparks joy. My life is a tapestry of family moments and creative endeavors that keep me energized and fulfilled.
Worship and Ministry
I’m honored to co-lead worship with my husband, lifting our voices and hearts to the Lord together with our church family. Children’s Ministry ignites my passion like nothing else. There’s something so powerful about sharing the simple, transformative message of the Gospel with little ones and watching God work in their hearts. It’s a true privilege to witness their faith bloom. I’m grateful to serve in our church’s media and Admin roles. For me, it’s not just a task—it’s a creative outlet and an opportunity to pour into the body of Christ in meaningful ways.

Esther Aguilera
Children’s Pastor
Background
I am a woman of God who comes from a family of five. I am the middle child and the only daughter of two siblings. I was born in California and lived there for 16 years. After moving to Colorado Springs and then back to California, God decided to bring us back to Colorado in 2022. Since then, I have been living in Bayfield, CO and am loving it. In 2018, I graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies. I am currently a SpEd Paraprofessional at Ignacio Elementary School, and hope to soon complete my Student Teaching, to fulfill my true calling and passion of becoming a teacher.
Children’s Ministry
I am blessed to be a part of Recalibrate Church, and have been attending for two years. Since I was fourteen, I felt the calling over my life to be a part of the Children’s Ministry, and started volunteering as a helper. By the age of fifteen, I was a kids’ church teacher. I truly do have a love and passion for teaching kids, and on top of that, being able to teach kids about the love of God and helping them find their true identity in Jesus Christ is a great privilege. Despite the different churches I was a part of, my heart was always called and pulled towards helping out in their children’s ministry. I really do love being able to come up with and put together great lessons that would not only motivate our kids but remind them whose they are and what they are capable of doing with God by their side. It is an honor to be the kids church pastor and be able to teach our kids.
